Bvlgari began as a small jewelry shop in Rome, Italy opened in 1884 by Greek silversmith Sotirio Voulgaris. Through four generations of family ownership, Bvlgari has become one of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world, synonymous with bold, innovative jewelry design and exceptional craftsmanship.

In the early days of the shop on Via Sistina in Rome, Sotirio sold antique jewelry, silver objects, and his own jewelry designs made of gold, silver and precious stones. His exquisitely crafted pieces featuring Greek and Roman architectural motifs quickly gained the patronage of noble Roman families and aristocrats.

In the early 1920s, Sotirio's sons Costantino and Giorgio took over Bvlgari, opening the first Bvlgari high jewelry workshop and introducing the Bvlgari Bvlgari watch collection. The brothers helped to establish the now iconic Bvlgari style, inspired by Greco-Roman classicism, voluptuous shapes and a touch of extravagance. The 'Serpenti' jewelry line with snake motifs was launched, becoming a symbol of sensuality and refinement.

During the golden age of Cinecittà, some of the most prominent actresses of the silver screen — Anna Magnani, Ingrid Bergman and Elizabeth Taylor — became enamored with Bvlgari's distinctive and colorful jewels. This ignited the brand's passion for artwork, colors and gemstones. Bvlgari's long relationship with film began, and the brand gained global fame.

In the 1960s, Richard Burton purchased the famed Bvlgari emeralds for Elizabeth Taylor. This landmark moment established Bvlgari as the world's leading jewelry designer of important colored gemstones. Bvlgari's use of cabochon cut stones and rare chromatic combinations revolutionized jewelry design with a look that was bold, distinctive and risqué.

By the 1970s, Bvlgari opened boutiques worldwide in an era of "Our Beautiful Italy". The brand became a symbol of the dolce vita. In the following decades, Bvlgari continued its ascent into an uncontested leader of jewelry and watchmaking excellence. Groundbreaking collections like Allegra, LVCEA and Serpenti seduced a new generation of followers including royalty, socialites and celebrities.

Today, over 130 years since its founding, Bvlgari continues to define Italian excellence with exquisite designs, audacious luxury and passion for precious stones. Under the guidance of Chief Executive Jean-Christophe Babin, Bvlgari pursues progressive creativity, innovation excellence and the highest quality in each of its creations across the world. This vision has crafted the Italian jeweler into a global luxury powerhouse, helping to propel Bvlgari into a new age of success and prominence in the 21st century. The magnificent story of Bvlgari lives on.
